The record claim is for the EPYC 7763 which has 64 2.45GHz ‘Zen 3’ cores (3.675GHz boost) with 256Mbyte of cache running two threads per core. The fastest version runs at 3.7GHz (4.1GHz boost) and has 8 cores running 16 threads and the same cache size – see table below for all versions.

PCIe 4 connectivity is x128 wide.

These are multi-die modules with up to eight processor die and an IO chip.

Applications are expected in supercomputing, cloud data centres and enterprise data centres.

At the launch, companies including AWS, Cisco, Dell, Google, HPE, Microsoft, Oracle and Supermicro others announced adoption.

By the end of 2021, AMD is predicting 100 new server platforms will be using 3rd Gen EPYC processors.
