The report says that TSMC’s plan is now to invest $35 billion for a fab which will be capable of running 3nm wafers as well as 5nm.
The original announcement was that TSMC would build a 20k wpm fab costing $12 billion running a 5nm process starting in 2024.
The UDN report, based on rumours in Taiwan, says that TSMC will build six fabs instead of one but it seems much more likely that it is upping the output 6x by building a single Gigafab.
UDN also says that TSMC’s Taiwan-based employees will be offered double their salaries to move to Arizona.
